I realize that this bug report may not be exactly the right one but for those experiencing this issue for only the last few days (people reporting here since the 18th) it does seem that login.oscar.aol.com port 5190 no longer accepts SSL connections. Unchecking "Use SSL" will allow login. Of course those of us using SSL would prefer to keep using it, but there does not seem to be any workarounds that I have been able to find. It is true that newer versions of pidgin supposedly have this fixed. Lot's of info here:
