We are affected by this bug too using Ubuntu 9.10. Very surprised that it has lingered so long. This bug is not a paper cut. At minimum, the user is annoyed. For some, the user experience is seriously negatively impacted. Not fixing this issue could be due to insufficient resources for fixing the issue or an unwillingness to prioritize this issue. Alternatively, this issue may considered a feature, rather than a bug.
