I have always thought it was a mistake to try to place a value or judgement 
about a writer based on the interpretation of what another writer thinks of 
him.  I think it would be more helpfull to figure out what a writer is about 
by reading more by that author instead of work about him.  I know the 
original question was more general than this, but I believe this holds true 
with any author.  You can read an entire book about a writer, and then 
you'll have some sort of opinions, but they won't be yours, and they very 
likely won't be right.  Next time you come across an article on or related 
to REH, instead, read a Solomon Kane story, or something from The Sowers of 
the Thunder.  You'll be startled by the enlightnement you will receive 
compared to the dull ideas set forth about that writer by lesser talents!  
You really should do yourself a favor, Michael, and read more Howard.  He'll 
never let you down!
