I have always thought it was a mistake to try to place a value or judgement
about a writer based on the interpretation of what another writer thinks of
him. I think it would be more helpfull to figure out what a writer is about
by reading more by that author instead of work about him. I know the
original question was more general than this, but I believe this holds true
with any author. You can read an entire book about a writer, and then
you'll have some sort of opinions, but they won't be yours, and they very
likely won't be right. Next time you come across an article on or related
to REH, instead, read a Solomon Kane story, or something from The Sowers of
the Thunder. You'll be startled by the enlightnement you will receive
compared to the dull ideas set forth about that writer by lesser talents!
You really should do yourself a favor, Michael, and read more Howard. He'll
never let you down!
