I have a small squid-2.4 installation running on a private "Pentium
class" box to serve a dozen people at my home. load is rather low
with the cache partition being only a small 300meg reiserfs and an
ADSL upstream. The System partitions are ext2.

It had 2.4.PRE-STABLE1 and now, roughly since its release,
2.4.STABLE1 running on unpatched linux-2.4.5, 2.4.7 and since
yesterday 2.4.10. There were various squid/linux versions running on
it for about two years now, down to some 2.3.STABLE on linux-2.2 with
reiserfs patches.

The box is used for various other tasks, read "homegrown multipurpose
server", i.e. nfs/smb/http/mail/burning CDs/etc.

squid on reiserfs never ever caused me a single problem.

on another note, since you are after performance, i suspect that
fitting your machine with more than 128MB RAM (depending on squid's
cache size) will be of much more importance, rather than a
snappier-than-ext2 filesystem.
