hi all,

after more than a dozen crashes on a very unstable dual amd box, i
realized that all (!) partitions were corrupted after checking them
manually due to messages in the logs which were really weird (vs-XXXXX
... leaf ... inode ... free ...). i am very unhappy with that. it's not
that the filesystems were corrupted, it's just that i was not told
about it! journaling is great, but not under such circumstances, really.
ext2 just shouts as loud as it can when somethings gone wrong.
please don't misunderstand me, i like reiserfs and i don't want to try
anything else. but i'd really like to be informed about corrupted
filesystems as soon as possible... ;-)
another weird thing is that reiserfsck --rebuild tree just always leads
to different results! i really don't understand it. if i do a
tree-rebuild several times, it always finds new files which it puts
into lost+found. this happens with j and k-pre9.
i am going to simply reinstall the whole system as suse 7.3 is
scheduled for 13th this month. hope the 172G softraid5 is not damaged at
all... :-]
have a nice day [tm]
