Thanks for the info.  Now, I feel more comfortable about converting this 
partition while using it.  I have just one more question:

The two versions of the ReiserFS have very different limitations, for one, on 
how many files there can be in a directory (indicating that they use 
different number types).  So, how can both versions be present and operating 
simultaneously?
