Actually, I remember a Times column animadversating on "the religious left". But the columnist was NOT writing about Jesse Jackson or the Berrigans, but about what most people who acknowledge its existence call "political correctness". Evidently, to him anything "religious" is bad... or rather, anything bad is "religious".
