0.3.0a1 refused to boot beyond splash screen

Bug description:
Could be my abilities coming through (or lack of??), but after 2 runs
on a fresh Lubuntu 11.10 install, I was unable to boot beyond the
splash screen. My first run was with a slightly modified
relinux.conf, changing usernames. Second time was unmodified, still
no go. With 0.2.1b1 I was able create an ISO with an unmodified
relinux.conf file, also on Lubuntu 11.10.
