I actually know the developer and we were just chatting in a Slack channel. I encourage everyone to take a look at it. However, Anubis is a bit heavyweight for my server and more complicated to set up. Also, if scrapers use headless Chromium browsers to do their dirty work, they'll pass the Anubis proof-of-work challenge. Setting up password auth took a few minutes and is completely handled by Apache.
