I have to say that I'm quite impressed with those screen shots. Your 8-point example shows a lot of information packed attractively into an 11x11 pixel square. I can see that there is a lot of anti-aliasing going on, but since I don't read Chinese, I don't know how the artifacts actually affect perception. Can you judge for us whether the 8-point xterms are comfortably readable?
