The render extension appeared first in XFree86 4.0.1.
The message is telling you startx is trying to run a program that
depends on it.
Either remove that program from needing to start, or install
a more recent version of XFree86 (4.x is much to be preferred
to 3.3.6 so long as you have hardware capable of running it;
most hardware is supported....
