Jed, I installed a Pacific Research R-310 controller in a Yaesu VXR-5000 UHF repeater. It has been going strong for almost three years, with only one hiccup. One of the default S-commands that I did not disable caused the repeater to lock into continuous transmit when someone was playing with some tones. It ran for two days before I noticed that my monitor was always receiving.
I have hooked up one of the digital inputs to start an hourly warning message when the AC power fails. The one negative comment I have is that the system clock is not crystal-based, but runs a delay loop to keep track of time. This means that the announced time can be more or less accurate, depending upon the "workload" of the microprocessor. I have complained about this to the designer, and I think a crystal-based clock is in the works. As a "time and frequency nut" I would like repeater time announcements to be on-time, all the time! Even the best of repeater controllers are a few minutes fast or slow over a month, so this is something we have to live with. I am putting together a simple PLL decoder to trigger an hourly tone and an ID when WWV transmits the 1400 Hz tone exactly on the hour. It won't announce the exact time, but it will provide an hourly time hack. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY > Jed Barton wrote: > > Hey gang. > Anyone ever had a controller or bought anything from Pacific Research?
