The Range 1 model of MSF5000 covers 132-158 MHz, and needs no modification for the entire 2m band. The Range 2 model covers 146-174 MHz, so if you aren't going below 146 MHz you shouldn't be concerned. Get a copy of the Motorola manual 6881092E05, it will answer most of your questions about installation and operation.
