Heatsinking is definitely on the light side for continuous duty on 
these units.  Back in the day, when we had one of these repeaters in 
daily operation, we did it this way....

Punched a 1.25in hole near each end of the transmitter box cover.  
Mounted a small squirrel cage fan directly to one hole, blowing 
through the tx box.  If you can't find a squirrel cage, a muffin type 
of fan would work if the hole is large enough.  You can maintain 
shielding integrity by using screening over the holes.  This removes 
a lot of heat, and I still use this trick on GEs today.  

Under the chassis, where you can see the power transistor mounting 
studs, I mounted some wide strips of copper on the stud under the nut-
 sort of a homebrew heatsink directly on the transistor.  Then I 
mounted a 3-4in fan under the chassis blowing directly on the new 
heatsink.  These tricks kept our tx very cool and happy on the 
longest up-times.
