Here's one for the oldtimers who have experience in commercial data transmission, teletype in particular. A fellow came into my office yesterday with this unit he said he found in the dump. It was made by Sperry Gyroscope Ltd. in Ottawa, Ontario Canada, a division of Sperry Rand Corp. Both of these entities were absorbed long ago by first Remington and then Unisys, I believe. The unit is call a Combination Teletest and has a tag on it that says it was last calibrated Dec. 1, 1978. From the front panel, I think this thing was used to test teletype equipment. It has stuff like a series of toggle switches that say "MARK" and "SPACE" on them as well as an adjustment for baud rate, from 12 to 1200 baud. There is also a meter that says % Distortion. There are two BNC connectors that say INPUT LOOP and OUTPUT LOOP. It has a bunch of other doo-dads that I can't rmember at the moment.
Anyone ever seen or worked with one of these? It's obviously of no use anymore but curiosity has me wondering. Thanks for any info.
