I don't have a book here, but the way I remember it, the TKR was NOT 
just a modded TK-820. There are (and will have to be for ANY full duplex 
synthesised radio) two separate VCO's to generate tx and rx at the same 
time. The mobile, as I remember, doesn't have two fully spearate VCO's, 
just two adjusments for the same one. I could be wrong...
In any event, it's WAAY to difficult to duplex one of those to be worth 
the effort.
You also have a lot of wierd T/R switching that goes through the 
microprocessor, and it would likely mean replacing the micro with one 
from a TKR.
I wouldn't bother with it. By the time you get done, you could have 
converted two or three Mitreks, and a BUNCH of Micors or MII's.
Or gotten a second mobile and just wired the two together.
