That's one mark of a good design engineer.
I could tell you stories from when I worked at NASA (for 6 years)....
In most cases the techs were better designers that the engineers....
We had one engineer who had taken what we call grade school
and high school in Hungary.  He had a totally different attitude
than the others... on a regular basis he ran his designs past the
maintenance techs for what is called these days "peer review".
