Mostly true.... BUT......
If you are intending to receive digital PL or other semi-fast digital data,
then you better be using a true FM exciter. If listening to a PM transmitter,
you're not going to be hearing the DPL it may try to send.
This is easy to demonstrate for yourself. Get an old low-band micor with the
PM exciter & set it up to transmit DPL. It won't work!!! Then swap out that
PM exciter for the exciter that has the true FM for the PL & inject the DPL
into it. DPL then works!!! (Note: the voice will still be PM)
Besides all this, check out the side band noise on a PM exciter compared to a
similar true FM exciter. The FM exciter is better, and that makes a slight
difference in duplex operations, especially on VHF. (not such a big deal on
UHF because of the increased seperation)
