I found and fixed a problem with my repeater. It is a converted UHF
Master II mobile. I hope anyone else with the same problem will find
this information helpful.
For some reason, I would intermittently receive an on-frequency signal
during TX. When the humidity and temperature were just right, it would
cause my repeater to curchunk itself after someone would bring the
repeater up. I have attempted various things to solve this problem, such
as tweaking the duplexer, re-routing where the RX antenna jack was and
changing the type of coax to the antenna port inside the radio. Best I
can tell, the signal is being generated in the exciter. Only after
removing the exciter from the radio case did the problem go away. It was
not a big deal to relocate it to the 19" controller case that I have the
controller and other boards in.
I have heard that some frequencies cause "problems" for the converted
Mastr II mobiles. I can tell you for sure that 443.450+ is one such
"problem frequency".
