Greetings,
I am putting together an experimantal addon to my repeater. It will
consist of 3-5 remote receivers situated in various spots in the
repeater coverage area. The idea is to make handheld access possible
over the entire coverage area. Handhelds can hear fine, but have a
tough time with one watt and a rubber ducky getting back to the
repeater. Each receiver site will consist of VHF radio, computer and
an internet connection. No rf linking will be done so that remote
receiver sites can be located without worrying about station licence
issues. The key piece of software I need help with is a digital signal
quality test. I need something like a sinad measurement done by each
remote receiver site on a packet of digitized audio (1.-.2
seconds/packet). Standard sinad measurements use a 1khz test tone... I
need something that works on on normal user audio. The best idea I
have come up with so far is to digitally bandpass filter the user
audio from 300-3500hz and compare this with a sample of digitally
bandpass filtered audio from 2000-3500hz. This gives a number which is
(signal+noise)/noise.

Has anyone any suggestions for this audio quality test? Does anyone
have a description of how various analog voting cards function?...
perhaps something similar can be done in the digital domain.

cheers
