IRLP/Echolink/eQSO/VOIP does not cause the repeater to "broadcast crap"!! The amateurs doing the talking are the ones guilty!!!
I started linking repeaters via VOIP in 1999. VOIP does not cause crap, it is who the repeater owners/trustees allow on the system. In Portland we have a handful of amateur operators who make complete fools of themselves on the repeaters daily. Some are former CB'ers, some are Handi-hams, some have ZERO personality, & some are simply stupid. Unfortunately, regardless of where they come from in life they end up making people NOT want to listen to the repeater because these leeches won't go away. Example: one fairly new ham (licensed about 3 years) who's call is "....CNS" but the way he pronounces it sounds like he is saying "....penis"!!!! Then he gets on the swap net and feels the need to explain after EACH listing what EACH piece of equipment is. (most of the time his descriptions were wrong) Repeated discussions with the individual were not very successful in making changes. > --- In [email protected], "skipp025" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > wrote: > > With the advent of IRLP, Echolink, VOIP and other > > linking schemes... some repeaters broadcast crap > > all day long.
