This might be a FAQ but, I am new to the group and when I searched the
archives I didn't find any reference to it.
I have an Icom IC-RP4020 (50 Watt Version) that has an intermittent transmit
problem. The repeater works fine for weeks but then just dies; no power
output at all (either by enabling it from the controller SEND or PTT from
the local mike). I removed from the repeater rack and had it on the bench to
attempt to locate the problem. At first there was no output but while
looking around and pressing the LOCAL INHIBIT switch it came back to life.
That switch shouldn't have effected anything I was doing. From the best I
can deduce, the exciter is active during the failure. I was unable to
measure the T8 voltage prior to it working again. All the components and
traces look good on the PA module. The only strange thing I notice is that
if the repeater has been inoperative for a while and things have had a
chance to cool the output power is about 44 watts, after I hold down the PTT
for about 30 seconds the power increases to about 50 watts. I tried to
exercise the power adjustment pot to see if that might have gotten onto a
bad spot, no effect.
So, after all my rambling, has anyone seen a similar problem with any other
Icom repeater?
Thanks,
Eric
