OK, all. I got it! I got the VCO to lock for use at a freq as low as
144.910. It will now go 144.910 through 147.555 - tested.

I will research posting my mod and some photos in the near future...

The circuit board I referred to earlier (below) is the HLD4037A-1.

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Syntor RX VCO mod...

Looking for anyone who remembers how to mod the VCO on an original
Syntor for the ham band. The radio transmits just fine - it just
won't receive. The PROM is programmed for the **exact** freqs
needed - not 10.7 down like another mod suggested.

I had one modified this way before and it ran for about 2 years, but
then the receiver went deaf... If I remember correctly, the mod I
used involved cutting one or more of the parallel jumpers on a board
under the rectangular cover just above the freq prom, but I cannot
remember how many of the jumpers needed to be cut, or in what
sequence...

I don't know the board number with the jumpers I'm referring to
offhand (and I'm not at the shack to look at it right now), but if
it helps you to have that number, I'll be able to get it a bit
later. I can also provide photos, if that might help. I performed
surgery on the original radio in an attempt to repair it, so I no
longer have it for reference. :-(

Also, the link to Paul Bennett's Syntor Mod Page on the RBTIP site
<http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/5857/> does not work
anymore. Maybe he moved it somewhere else???

Thanks,
