well, let me share this with you, perhaps it will help.
the original MSR 2000 continuous duty amp on our local 2m
machine died.
we paid just over $100 (parts cost only) for new PA transistors...
3 months later... it died....again.
i went up to a local 2 way dealer and he GAVE me 3 micor
high split (162-170mhz) Micor FBI repeater PA's that had
been removed from service. i got the same ... "that'll never
work" spiel from him....
after re-wiring the MSR to accept the micor PA (if i remember,
the drive in a micor PA is 600mw - MSR is 1w) among other things...
the high split pa ran for a whole year with NO PROBLEMS.
No spurs on the SA, no bleed during transmit... and it ran
cool as a cucumber.
This high split PA died a few weeks ago.... probably just from
old age (i dated it to 1984) - about 20 years old... and what did
i replace it with???
another FBI Micor PA pull... and it's chugging away. 90w out.
just my .02
