John,
The DB365 Clamp Set is used to mount the antenna sleeve to your pipe,
not to mount the pipe to the Unistrut.
Assuming that each Unistrut is SOLIDLY mounted to the wall with at least
four 3/8 x 4" (or larger and longer) anchor bolts centered in the middle
web of each of four adjacent blocks, your task is to mount the
largest-size galvanized steel pipe that the clamp set will accommodate.
Although you can use spring nuts with surface clamps, the more robust
method is to use Unistrut (or Powerstrut) HEAVY-DUTY clamps that are
sized for the pipe diameter, and have hooks that engage the Unistrut
channel. When I state HEAVY-DUTY, I mean the really gnarly, 3/32 inch
thick clamps- not the ones you get at Home Depot. Throw away the
included cadmium-plated bolts and use high-strength stainless steel
bolts and nuts for the clamps.
Once you have mounted your mast pipe and it is plumb and secured, spray
all metal parts with LPS-3 or similar corrosion-preventive compound.
Then, mount your antenna to the mast with your clamp set.
A tall antenna puts an enormous stress on the mounting mast and anchors,
so this area should receive a great deal of attention toward maximizing
robustness and an excess of strength and durability. An investment in
money and effort at this stage will repay many times in reliability over
the long term!
