I've been known to run the repeater exciter 
direct to the antenna during PA repairs.  
A few hundred milliwatts can actually go 
quite a distance. I know of some 40 plus 
mile UHF links running about 2 watts. 

The other issue is 40 watts from a maxtrac
PA section. 

Put a small blower/fan on it or expect to 
fix it at some future date. Even better, 
cut the PA down to 20 to 25 watts in 
software, but still use a small fan.
