Thanks Ken, worked like a charm.

Remembering that I am using the DR1000 with the CAT1000. First I simply record the sound to the DR1000. You need to unlock the controller to program it. Depending on the length of the sound you need to pick a track. I generally use number 15 or 16 which is 6 seconds in length.

Key-up and enter *9515 and un-key. You will hear start message, key-up and record the sound. I use the computer to do this. I have the sound cued up and ready. The *9515 is to record DRV track 15. To record a different track, replace the 15 with the track number you want to record. If you enter *9415 the DRV will play back the sound you just recorded. If you dont like it and want to record it again or another one in this same track you must delete it. Key-up and enter *9615 to delete track 15. If you record over it you might have some strange sounds!

Now I just tell the CAT1000 which message to play and I do that by programming message number 11 which is the Courtesy Tone for the Repeater. Key-up and enter *3111 154 then un-key. The controller will confirm your input. *31 is the message programming command with 11 being the message to program. 154 is DVR track 15. Key-up and enter *3011 which will play back message 11. If you are happy with the sound enter the locking code to exit programming mode. You will need to play or experiment with sound level of the computer speakers and the distance of the microphone to get the sound you like. I hope this helps since I am not very good at teaching or explaining the How-to-do stuff. If you have any questions feel free to contact me off the list. I dont want to bore too many people. I hope I didnt leave anything out or confused you.

Kenneth, care to share how that is done on the Cat1000 controller.  I new to the Cat1000 and could use a little. help on it.

I have a CAT-1000 controller and using the DVR I am able to have had different WAV files recorded into it. Works great. I once had the Nextel beep. beep to see how it sounded. It was ok to play with, but got on your nerves in a few minutes so I changed it. There are a lot of possibilities with a DVR on a repeater.

Having homebrewed several of my own controllers, I have done exactly the thing you are asking.  There are some limitations but it will depend mostly on two factors:

1) The complexity of the wav file you are trying to imitate.

2) The abilities of the controller you are using.

Personally, I would have to hear the wav file and know the capabilities of your controller and with that myself or someone here in the group who knows the controller you are using could more than likely help you out.

Good luck - and 73

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] WAV forms to Courtesy Tones

Hi All,

I have a couple of wav files which I would like to try and use as a courtesy tone.

Problem I have, is that the controller will only accept 1 or 2 tone sequences

I would like to try and somehow get the tone pattern for the wav file, and use them to program my controller.

Anyone got any ideas????

Regards
