something to think about, and *please* keep comments
limited to email to me. I am sure this have the
ability to make quite a stir. Please read it's
entirety, as to make sure you get what I am getting
at.
Perhaps you may see something I may have over-looked.

As repectful amateurs, we do all in our power to
reduce interference to other stations, part 15 devices
and so on. Over some time now, I have noticed that the
noise floor has gotten higher and higher because more
transmitters are being put on the air, causing more
radio activity and so on.

With that in mind, those transmitters are all
kinds of nature: commerical, part 15, and ours; part
97.

What seems to be the trend is this:
-Part 15 devices are made cheaper then ever, in
more than one sense. The side to notice is the
quality of RF design such as filtration and
    supression of hamonics.

Case in point: a friend of mine lived in an
apartment complex that had a neighbor whom
recently bought a GE 900MHz phone. You might
guess what happened, but leaving out the boring
stuff, the 2nd harmonic which was at 455MHz was
50% or better strength of the orginal signal.

-The other trend is that more and more commericial
radios have more and more power... What is the
    deal here?

Why is it pressed that we amateurs must use as
little power necessary, when commerical radios use
100W for inner city comm, on VHF or UHF? In other
words, why do they use WAY more then necessary?
(there could be several reasons, but when one
really makes his mind work, it goes back to too
many people using too much power)

In my opinion this is getting rediculous how the RF
situation has gotten, especially with the FCC
seemingly having it's priorities elsewhere. I have
noticed they are doing stuff for more politcal, then
for techical advacement. BPL, air broadcast HDTV are
NOT techical beneifits. I am saddened to see that our
FCC endourses this stuff, even though the technical
guys see it, but refuse to admit it for the sake of
their jobs. Amateurs that have politcal power can
attest to this.

What must be done, I believe, is up to you. How bad
you really want something done will determine whether
you do anything about it.

Help keep our hobby alive and well. Let us Use what
we have.. See June 2004 QST correspondence.

Respestfully,
~Ben, KB9LFZ
