You probably got oxidation of the copper braid of your RG-213.  I had the 
same thing happen to a chunk of RG-8/X that appeared totally unweathered on 
the outside, but in reality had sucked in a bit of water over the years.

If you must use braid-shielded coax for your antenna run, make sure the 
braid is silver-plated.
