I/we installed a local UHF Ham box last fall.
After 3 months of regular operation, the receiver
went semi numb.
After many complete systems tests and much head
scratching, we could find no problems with the
equipment, nor any measurements out of place.
I/we replaced the new LMR-400 run with traditional
half inch hard line and the system preforms great
as original. The removed 30' section of LMR 400
tests great, has no obvious damage and the connectors
were checked and replaced. The problem first
appeared after a week long summer 100+ heat wave.
The problem is this run of LMR-400 makes a nice
10 dB plus resistive pad in the UHF Range.
The above problem along with demostrated noise
issues keep me clear of LMR-400 type cable. I've
had much better luck with quality RG-214.
There's a glut of hardline on the market as seen
on Ebay.
