The UPS w/ external battery is a great idea. One thing you need to watch however is the in-rush current of a nearly drained battery stack. If there was an outage which took the batteries down to where the UPS shut off, when A/C returned the batteries *might* want allot more food than the UPS's charger can supply.
Restated, an array of large GelCels or Edisons capable of 200 Ah delivery will toast a 200 VA Triplite's internal charger.
