Good post, thanks.
I have acquired a source for the control set and a key, still need
to get a manual. That was already on my list. I had already spent
about 6 hours reading through the material on that website and while
it covers almost all the info on the GE's I could find nothing
specific on why a radio whould need 4 (or more) 5C's and 1 EC. Do
they take an average over several crystals or something or was this
a function of multiple channels?

I am not interested at this time at putting up a commercial type
repeater, only understanding them and the equipment better. I do
not have the 5k+ needed to do a full blown repeater or the equipment
(yet). A 440 emergency mobile repeater is my ultimate goal one day,
but I have no time frame for reaching this, just a goal. I want to
do it to gain a better understanding of repeaters in general.

I do possibly have access to people that has several repeaters up
and linked in the NC area, but they are at least 3 hrs away. All of
those are GE or Motorola. They would be my source at first, when
the time comes, for some of the specific programming and testing
equipment that is so expensive.

Joe
