I just installed one of the duplexers on my repeater for 2 meters and 440,
no problems as of yet, coverage is the same.  This is one with the pigtails.

I guess that could be a problem, but I've had pretty good luck with 
mine.  If they are kept in a controlled environment so the coax doesn't 
pull in water, they should be OK.  If you're really concerned about it, you 
can go with a pigtailless model.
