I still have a lot of RG-9 around, yes I would
consider it an earlier version of RG-214.
All my commercial RG-9 is gray in colour, dual
shield but unlike 214, at least one shield
is original unplated copper braid. Nothing wrong
with that when the cable is kept from damage
and moisture penetration.
I do like and prefer commercial mil spec RG-214
for most new installs, the dilectric and uv
protection is better. RG-9 has a bit more loss
than newer 214 but its a great resource for
many applications.
