Re: Kenwood TKR-820 repeater
It's a nice desktop or rack mount repeater.
The Kenwood KPT-50 hand held interface is
required to change the frequency and sub
tone ctcss (or digital signaling). There
are no aftermarket programmers made that
I'm aware of. Price shock for the kpt-50
is about $200 discounted for hams, the
commercial crowd now retails it for about
$338. If you're a ham or GMRS person, I'll
program it for free if you live in my area.
The KPT-50 works as stand alone unit or
through a pc running software (much better).
They can be found with an internal duplexer,
the quick test is to look on the rear and
see one coax jack (with the internal duplexer)
or two coax ports (transmit and receive).
Most of the common repeater functions are
set on the internal repeater board. There is
no internal ID'er function, I most often
send them into basic conventional commercial
and GMRS Service with an Autocode ID board
interfaced into the back accessory connector.
Most people don't know how to properly align
the front end using the internal sample port,
but rough guess tuning by most seems to work
ok.
(the 50 cent plug),
I'm a Kenwood Dealer, if you have more
questions, feel free to Email me off the
list and I'll try to help as time allows.
Parts, manuals and service are still available
although the repeater is now a discontinued
model.
Most every function can be done through the
rear accessory jack, ie interface an external
ham type repeater controller.
