One item I forgot to mention...

You could put a extra PL decoder on the local RX, and wire it to a
multipole relay that bypasses the voting system completely.

Picture a scenario where the voter fails. The entire repeater
system is dead. The users switch from 100.0 to perhaps 103.5 and
the main receiver pulls in this relay. The armatures are hooked to
the repeater controller audio in, COS in, PL decode in. The normally
closed is connected to the voter out. The normally in is hooked to
the receiver. This way you at least have a local in-cabinet repeater.
And yes, you could use a chip-based switching method, but a relay
is simple, and it shouldn't get much use anyway.

Don't give up on the better voters.
GEs are out there, and not too expensive.

If they have discriminator audio outputs, COR and PL decode logic
levels they should do fine.

Keep the power level down to the point where they stay cool
and you will be OK. Read my Mitrek interfacing article again,
I['ve added info to it in the last few months (especially the
Motorola method of adding a separate TX antenna jack)

Have you seen the one designed by Kevin Custer W3KKC?

Can you put the TX at the antenna level ? I've done one system
on a tall tower and we discovered that #8 AC wiring and audio coax
was much cheaper than heliax. No sense in using half to 3/4 of
your RF power to heat the coax.

When it comes right down to it, once the system is in service and
burned in, how often do you actually need access to the TX ?

Best way to say thinks is to help others.
Take pictures as you build your system, and when you get
it working, write an article for repeater builder.com !
