...unless the repeater is in tone squelch, and I think the RC-85 and'd 
COS and CTCSS inputs. So if one was inverted, it wouldn't key at all. 
But the tone decoder will likely take a few hundred mS to spin down, so 
when the user unkeys, the controller is getting what it wants to see for 
a while, and keys. Then the decoder closes, and the controller drops.
