  A certain version of the RCA ... Super-Carfone' ??
the hang up box was used to turn off the transmitter
filaments during stand-by time. The transmitter
filaments were instant heating and were usually hot
by the time you brought the microphone to your mouth
 to speak.

My last Prog-Line went south to a friend who also
 collects radios ...

  Recently, I was given a high-band L43GGB for my
 'collection?'

In Motorola, if the crystal oven was a black
bakelite housing, it was a 65 degree C oven.

If the oven was a gold irridited (sp?) housing,
it was an 85 degree C oven.

It got to the point I could tell the temperature
of the oven just by touching with my hand -
especially the 85 degree C ovens.
