Bob, One thing I will tell you is that while I was replacing all the PA's on my 850's I left the final transistor spring "not soldered", it did not make rated power. After I soldered the spring/shield or whatever it is (they call it a spring) it went up to 40 watts so it's telling me it's actually acting as more than just a spring.
I have to tell you, Kenwood acted very responsibly on the matter with the speed and cost of these upgrades. I was impressed.
