Well, the repeater-builder company makes good repeaters !!!

Are you committed to Motorola? or would a good used GE interest you?

Either way, contact Scott at repeater-builder at 814-444-9460, weekdays during
normal business hours eastern time.

Otherwise, do you know anybody at the MSS ?

If yes, ask them what they are pulling out of service. A large
number of business radio systems have been or are being
retired... as an example in this area every single plumber, air
conditioning repair, and other business that you would find on
a community repeater system are now using cellphones. The
local water company didn't bother installing the 2-way radios
in the new trucks this time around... the company calls the
crew foreman's cellphone.
Even the local cab company has decommissioned their voice
dispatch system - they are using their radio channel for digital
dispatch/automatic vehicle locating and all voice traffic is via
cellphones. In short, voice 2-way for small business is a
dead market.

See what the MSS has available. They may just have a
MSR-2000 or a Micor station in the back room gathering
dust. Or ask them if they have any decommissioned
equipment up at the repeater site(s). The local shop was
storing 4 Micor stations in one of their hilltop buildings
because they had no space in the back room.

If they have nothing, look around on the net. A while
back I saw a MSR2000 Repeater for about $600,
and a MSF5000 for about $1200. If you buy something
like that, do not buy "as is" or "tech special" - spend
a little extra and get a warranty. And manuals! A
large number of Moto manuals are NLA - no longer
available. You don't want something that you can't
get docs for. So before you hand over a check, make
sure that it either comes with manuals or you can
get manuals.

A start would be to look at the repeater-builder
web site - there is a page of used equipment vendors.
