I'd rather have no event at all, but that's not realistic.
I don't see how 10 seconds or so of uncontrolled charge is going to
push up a large lead acid battery's voltage much at all, before it
pops the fuse.

And a properly sized fuse would have stopped this.

They certainly have an odd following.. I agree they are very poorly
designed, yet they seem to be the first choice..
