Hustler's method for dealing with it is to provide 
a drain hole at the bottom and various places along 
the antenna.  I've not had one go bad yet as long 
as you don't block up the drain hole.

ps:  Some of us do seal the "upper joints with 
small amounts of silicon glue, just don't use 
too much.
