I've read several of the on-line resources on cavity filters, and think
I have a working understanding of the principles. But, on the practical
side, I'm trying to get a low-powered 2m repeater on the air with
minimum investment and looking for advice on how to proceed.
Repeater is an old Motorola C63B, and will be running 40 watts on 145.15
tx/144.55 rx. I actually have it working on the bench now, in
dual-antenna configuration- works OK as long as I hide the rx antenna
near the ground in a carefully chosen spot. I need to go single-antenna
when we put it up at the club station.
I have procured a set of Decibel D4140-2C cavity filters (just 2 cans)
setup for 153.695 pass and 153.290 reject. These are notch-type
cavities (I guess) since they have only one loop port each. I've been
thinking about trying the "hybrid ring" technique with these, cascaded
on the rx side (leaving the tx side as straight through to the antenna).
It's a quiet site, and the antenna will be a Ringo mounted on the side
of the tower at about 50 feet.
Any chance of this working? Any suggestions, or references to good
technical articles, would be appreciated.
