I have a 6 meter repeater with the antenna on the top of a 300 foot tower (I'm
using a decibel groundplane) and use 1/2" Andrew heliax to feed it. I had 7/8"
available, but looked at the difference of loss and could not justify the
additional work of using 7/8" hardline. (Try pulling 300 feet up a tower!) I
ended up with 350 feet of 1/2" by the time I got it across the ice bridge to
the building. I am completely happy with this decision and would do the same
thing again. At 53Mhz, the loss difference between the two cables was not that
much.
