Hi Eric,

On the R1225 hardware, the i20R doesn't add a lot
of features. On/in the maxtrac GM-300 repeater,
the i20R gives you the multi user tone/dcs operation
and I believe bi-directional works in one or two
of the ric/i20r/i50R Models.

If the "stock" r1225 repeater does multi-user
community operation then there would be no major
advantage having i20r unless you needed to adjust
some parameter specific to the i20R the r1225
controller doesn't do/have.

One thought about reverse burst operation is
the added non squelched audio to some brands and
models of generic (non reverse burst type)
decoders and encoders in mixed brand/type operation.

System users with non Motorhead type (not using
reverse burst) ctcss encoders and decoders can
sometimes become confused during the reverse phase
operation... staying open long enough to all some
audio/crash noise through. Just depends on how
the repeater receiver decoder gate circuit and
main tx-hang/tail timer and encoder circuits are
set up.

The point is... a large number of hams don't run
reverse burst (Motorola type ctcss) operation.

"Other brand" ctcss encoders/decoders can contribute
toward a small amount of ungated audio when the
mentioned circuits have to deal with non alike
ctcss operation.

The best thing about the i20R controller is the
really cool front panel LED display shown during
programming. :-)

cheers,
skipp
