You will only have the opportunity to deep discharge them maybe 4 to 5 times.   Wet electroyte
deep cycle batteries are an option at a reasonable price as long as you don't mind the acid.

Given that batteries used in backup service rarely get cycled at all, 
wouldn't car batteries be a more cost-effective choice? (assuming the gel 
cels were not a gift)
