I don't intend to continue this thread too much longer, since it's going
quite off-topic, but just to clear up what appears to be a
misunderstanding Coy...

He didn't say that. Read my message again. He said he was a "real ham"
and I wasn't.

He can go jump in a lake if that's his attitude.

Agreed. I didn't make any remarks about him other than that his
attitude sucks rocks and that as a public figure tied to ARRL VEC, he
shouldn't act like that.

I make these remarks about him because of his attitude that my Extra
wasn't as "real" as his and his POLICY was that anyone without a 20 WPM
Extra couldn't participate as a VE in his team.

If the Extra had a 20 WPM test attached to it when I took it, I'd have
done it. If it had the requirement that I had to build a radio, I'd
have done it. If it had required that I had to write DSP software in C
on Linux, I'd have done it. I was laid off from a job and bored anyway,
or I wouldn't have done it. General covered everything I needed anyway.

But... since I have it, I volunteered to help an ARRL VE Team out, and
they snubbed me (and he probably snubs other people too).

That's the type of attitude that we don't need.

The guy should go take up underwater basket-weaving if he's so unhappy
with the hobby and how we test people today, seriously. Go do something
that makes him happy.

His attitude was one of exclusion. He didn't want anyone who wasn't a
"real" Extra on his VE team.

Yours is one of inclusion with pride for your achievements. I like that.

There's a big difference. You're reasonable. He's a problem child.
It's not his place to exclude qualified people from his VE Team, and
tying the ARRL name to his behavior makes it even worse.

Yep... the hobby has lots of great aspects. I enjoy it, or I definitely
wouldn't be here.
