Some of the 1960's, 1970's and even into the 1980's
ARRL Handbooks had folded inductor band pass filter
projects. I built one of the 6 meter projects and
the darn thing worked really well for what it was.
But the Q of the entire unit wasn't even close to
what a true cavity might provide. But as a poor person
I had the chance to try it in different locations
to see where the best bang (location) for the applied
buck was.
I guess using an actual paper book for the building
material would have even lower performance.

On a different note, I found a dummy load built into
an old wood cigar box at the local ham flea market.
Laugh away but I'll say the builder at least put
household aluminum foil around it. I bought it because
he used true non inductive (expensive) resistors.
