Well, it's only metering signals, and I'm pretty sure they're DC and filtered on the receiver, so shielding is just part of the overall effort to keep RF inside the chassis. I doubt it's critical unless you're using the receiver in a situation where any leakage of any kind could be picked up and intelligence gained from it (like inside the US Embassy in Russia).
Worst case, you could wrap it in aluminum foil. I don't plan on using shielded wire for mine, just some plain #22 wires. Were you able to purchase the plugs from Motorola?
