Out here they mount boxes on the wooden utility poles
that have three antennas. These seem to be some kind
of electric meter reading equipment. Rather than drive
around and read each meter manually, they've replaced
the meters with ones that are capable of transmitting
on some (probably) UHF frequency. These boxes then
command the meters to respond with the current dial
reading, which is forwarded to master sites on the
higher towers in the area. These started appearing in
industrial/commercial areas and are beginning to be
prevalent in residential areas as well.

However, with all those big power leads running in and
out of the boxes in your photos, could it be some part
of BPL or wireless networking?
